What is Wingman in CS2?

Almost all CS2 players are generally concerned with either of the two regular 5V5 ranked game modes, Competitive and Premier. However, those aren’t the two only game modes in CS2, and Valve keeps experimenting with new game modes every now and then. One of the newer game modes to be part of Counter-Strike is Wingman. If you want to learn more about it, you are in the right place. Here’s a complete guide on what Wingman is in CS2.

Wingman in CS2 Explained

Wingman was first introduced in Counter-Strike on the 23rd of May, 2017, back when the game was called Counter-Strike: Global Offensive or CSGO. It came with the Operation Hydra event and was supposed to be exclusively for that event. Because of the incredibly positive response from the community, Valve decided to make it an official Counter-Strike game mode with an update on the 13th of November, 2017.

You can think of Wingman as any of the two regular ranked game modes but with 2 players in each team instead of 5 and 16 total rounds instead of 24. Just like Premier and Competitive, the objective of the Terrorists is to plant the bomb, while the Counter-Terrorists must prevent them from doing that or defuse the bomb if they do manage to plant it. The first team to win 9 rounds wins the match. For the current build of CS2, you can only play Wingman on 4 maps, but Valve will probably add more soon.

Wingman is a popular game mode in CS2, which is like the other two ranked game modes, Premier and Competitive, but the difference is that Wingman CS2 has only 16 rounds instead of 24 and 2 players in each team instead of 5. It was originally added as an event-exclusive game mode but became a permanent part of Counter-Strike because of the positive response from the community.
